We made all the arrangements with the Civil Aviation authorities and Gulf Air, and we met their mechanic Rainer Schrimm, who flew in from Frankfurt on Lufthansa on the due date. Ghuloom arranged to collect his tools and spare parts and getting these “airside via customs”. We had arranged a space in Gulf Air hangar alongside Lockheed L-1011 Tri-Star jets for Rainer to service the Mooney when it arrived.
Michael and Hans duly arrived when expected and were directed to park the Mooney 231, which was registered as D-EAFE in Germany, in the business aviation centre and clear customs. We went down to the airport to meet them and found them to be a couple on very unusual Germans indeed!
Michael subsequently moved the aircraft to the Gulf Air maintenance facilties and parked it up outside one of the hangars on the ramp.
