Around February 1982, Bob Grafham had been in correspondence directly with Hans-Peter Porsche and we had agreed in principal to represent the Porsche Design Product (PDP) range for Bahrain. We obviously saw the potential of adding the Porsche Design range to complement our Porsche car business.
Bob made plans to meet Hans-Peter and his general manager, Wolfgang Schweiger to finalise matters and to sign an agreement between our companies. He subsequently flew off to the meeting, which was held at the Porsche Design head office in Salzburg, Austria. Bob returned to Bahrain a few days later waving an agreement, with an additional opportunity to expand this for the entire Gulf States once we were established.
Hans-Peter Porsche was actively leading the marketing and business side of Porsche Design, whilst his brother “Butzi”, who was based in Zell-Am-See to the south of Salzburg, was undertaking all the design work at their studios, which was a beautiful converted chalet with magnificent views.
