Nick Faure was a commercial artist by profession. One day he called into Van Hallan to see Bill and I. Nick had an assignment to produce a cartoon strip of a series of traffic warden shots to be placed on the advertisements in the London Underground tube trains. He had a uniform with him, so Bill Bates got dressed up as a traffic warden. We then all went out in to South Street with Bill acting out he was going to give a lot of car owners parking tickets, whilst I took the photographs. Nick then used these series of pictures to draw up his strip of pictures for the advertisement. It was a great laugh and car owners thinking Bill was a real traffic warden who played the part with gusto!
